Berbice autopsy delays resolved

The long delay in autopsies in Berbice, owing to the resident pathologist proceeding on leave, was yesterday resolved when a replacement undertook his duties, bringing calm to irate family members who publicly had vented their frustration.

Stabroek News was informed by Berbice medical officials that autopsies were yesterday performed on all the corpses in wait by Dr Nehaul Singh.

They said that the situation would soon come under control as Dr Vivekanand Brijmohan would be back on the job.

Relatives of the dead, including those of the four persons whose bodies were recovered from the Berbice River after an ill-fated boat trip, had bemoaned the long waiting periods.

They were forced to hold off on funeral arrangements and religious ceremonies because of the unavailability of a pathologist.
