Man dies after collapsing at airport check-in counter

A Guyana-born Canadian citizen yesterday collapsed while at the check-in counter for a Caribbean Airlines Flight to Toronto and was pronounced dead by doctors at a nearby Guyana Defence Force medical centre.

Reports reaching the Stabroek News said that Ramkhripaul Jagmohan, 61 years old, was about to travel with his wife Sheila Jagmohan to Canada when he collapsed. He and his wife were about to board Caribbean Airlines flight BW 606 to Toronto, Canada.

Speaking to this newspaper, CEO of the CJIA Ramesh Ghir said that the man went with his wife to the check-in counter at around 11:30 and was completing the process of checking in and attaching his baggage tag to his bag when he collapsed.

Ghir said that the airport’s medical personnel attended to the man and decided that he should be referred to a doctor. The closest facility being the Guyana Defence Force medical centre at Timehri, the airport authorities transported the man there where he was pronounced dead.

According to a source, the man suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes and had a heart condition. He was being treated in Canada for these maladies.
