Soldier fined after caught with ganja at concert

A serving member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was yesterday fined $10,000 and ordered to do one year of community service after he admitted to having six grammes of cannabis at a concert at the National Park early Sunday morning.

Magistrate Allan Wilson imposed the fine on Samuel Archer, 25, who was found with the drugs at the Hits and Jams 94.1 ‘Boom’ concert.

Archer was behaving in a suspicious manner and as a result police conducted a search on his person that uncovered a transparent plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems, Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick said.
