Man charged with indecent exposure gets $20,000 bail

An East Ruimveldt man caught masturbating in public was granted $20,000 bail when he was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on April 12, at the East La Penitence Post Office, Michael Bourne exposed his private parts to the public.

Bourne, 40, of Lot 65 East Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to the charge of indecent exposure, when he appeared in court.

Prosecutor, Police Corporal Jomo Nichols said the defendant was caught by a female security guard at the East La Penitence Post Office, behind the guard hut masturbating. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

In his defence, Bourne told the court that he was not masturbating nor did he expose his private parts.

He said the woman is making false allegations against him. Bourne further told the court that he is a katahar [breadnut] vendor and a single parent of two daughters whom he cares for as his wife is overseas. He asked the court to impose a sentence on him instead of granting bail as he has no one to post the money for him.

Bourne was subsequently granted bail and ordered to return to court on April 26.
