Police destroy ganja plants at Lucky Island, Demerara River and Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast

Police during the past two days have destroyed two fields, totalling three acres, of ganja plants at Lucky Island, Demerara River and the backlands of Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast and so far no arrest has been made in either case.

According to a police release, the first drug eradication exercise which was conducted on Monday saw ranks destroying a two-acre field of about 2,000 marijuana (ganja) plants, ranging in height from 1 foot to 3 feet. These were found under cultivation at Onderneeming. The release said that the field along with an abandoned camp was destroyed.

Then yesterday, a one-acre field with about 1,000 marijuana plants, ranging in height from 1 foot to 5 feet, was found under cultivation at Lucky Island. The field was destroyed along with a nursery with approximately 5,000 seedlings.
