The police say they are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 1300h. today at Walton Hall Public Road, Essequibo Coast, and which resulted in the death of Banmattie Persaud, 28 years, of Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, WBD.
Police say that investigations revealed that the driver of motor canter GDD 7614 was proceeding along the roadway, allegedly at a fast rate, with 20 persons in the tray of the vehicle, who were on their way to a funeral.
While negotiating a turn the driver lost control of the vehicle which turned turtle. All the occupants suffered injuries and were taken to the Suddie Hospital where Persaud was pronounced DOA, police said.
Parbatie Sukhai, 41 years, of Parika, EBE, and the driver have been admitted for medical treatment. The others were treated and sent away.
