GDF officer and lance corporal bailed on charges of armed robbery

Two members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were yesterday released on $300,000 bail after they were charged with armed robbery at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Lieutenant Madainey Humphrey, 25, of Tuschen Housing Scheme and Lance Corporal Felix Frank, 28, of Melanie Damishana are accused of robbing Kelly Williams of three pennyweights of raw gold valued $36,000, at Julian Ross Landing, Cuyuni in January while they were armed with one AK-47 rifle. The gold was the property of Almendo Da Silva.
No facts on what transpired on the day in question were related to the court.

Police prosecutor Seon Blackman did not object to the two men being released on bail.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted them bail and asked that they lodge their passports.

The matter will be called again at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court on April 25.

Prior to this charge, the GDF had charged Lieutenant Humphrey for breaching the Force’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and commenced court martial proceedings against him. The court martial had been adjourned to facilitate his handover to the police.

Lance Corporal Frank was also charged by the GDF for breaches to its SOPs.  He was tried by Appropriate Superior Authority Orders in accordance with the Force’s regulations.
