Education Ministry did not make compensation offer – PRO

The Ministry of Education has denied that it offered to compensate the relatives of Safraz Sattaur, the Anna Catherina teenager who hanged himself in January, after he was allegedly threatened by welfare officers in relation to the death of his girlfriend, Natasha Nazamudeen.

Public Relations Officer of the Ministry Suelle Findlay-Williams said, when contacted, that the information carried in the story that was published in the Sunday Stabroek was not true.

Relatives of Sattaur had said on Saturday that they had received a telephone call from someone during the course of last week who claimed to be calling from the Education Ministry. The caller offered to compensate the boy’s relatives but the relatives declined the offer.
