Two remanded on armed robbery charge

Two men were remanded to prison after they appeared before Magistrate Alan Wilson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with robbery under-arms.

It was alleged that on April 17 at Meadow Bank, Jimmy Rawlins, 28, of Ketley Street, Charlestown and Daniel Mohammed, 24, of Mandela Avenue while armed with a gun robbed Raymond Hooper of a Toyota Carina motor car HB 6480, valued $2,300,000, property of Orin Kitt; 2 cell phones valued $24,000 and $60,000 property of Raymond Mohammed.

They were not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge when it was read to them.

They were both represented by attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat.

Police Prosecutor, Corporal Renetta Bentham objected to the two men being released on bail citing the prevalence and seriousness of the offence.

She further added that she is afraid that if the defendants are to be released on bail they might not return to court to stand trial and they will tamper with the prosecution’s witnesses.

They were subsequently remanded to prison.

The case was then transferred to court one before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for a return date.

Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry ordered that the men return to court on April 30.
