Couple stabbed after man finds girlfriend with rival suitor

East Coast resident Nigel Adams and his girlfriend were both stabbed last evening after he and another man fought over her.

Adams, 20, of Lot 30 Two Friends, Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara was up to press time being treated by doctors for multiple stab wounds, while his girlfriend, who was not identified, was receiving sutures to her head. She also had abrasions about her arm and back.

According to a family member of Adams, the couple was at the Nabaclis Community Centre ground.
Adams’ girlfriend, who was practising to plait the maypole for the village’s annual May Fair, left to use the bathroom. After some time had elapsed and she did not return, Adams went in search of her and found her speaking with another man. A fight ensued between them and Adams and his girlfriend were stabbed.

“He left to go to the maypole this evening to pick up he girlfriend and when he go at the back she was with another boyfriend and he drag her. When he dragging her, he and the boy start to fight and the boy pick up a wood to lash he and he run… the boy come now with a knife and juk he in he back and here [pointing to her side] the girl get a juk in she head,” Adams’ sister, who asked not to be named, said.

After seeing Adams in a somewhat unconscious state and bloody, his assailant fled. The injured duo was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by residents.

At the hospital last evening, the police took statements from eyewitness and the injured couple to assist with their investigations.
