Two of the suspects in Sunday’s fatal stabbing of a teenager in Lethem have been arrested in Brazil, according to Crime Chief SeelallPersaud.
Persaud told Stabroek News that there is no extradition treaty in place between Guyana and Brazil and in light of that the process of prosecuting the duo in Guyana can take a very long time.
He said that the information on the arrests came from the law enforcement officials located at both ends of the border.
Based on information from the police, 17-year-old Billy Nascimento Da Silva of Bon Fim, Brazil was fatally stabbed in his chest around 02:00hrs at Tabatinga, Lethem, after he intervened in an argument involving three men.
