Taxi man charged with assaulting woman, child

A taxi driver was yesterday charged with three counts of assault and placed on $130,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Christopher Padmore, 30, of Lot 407 North Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was charged with unlawfully assaulting Stacy Worrell and inflicting actual bodily harm on her. Another charge was also read to him for Worrell’s daughter, Patrice, who is one year and seven months old. He was accused of assaulting the child so as to cause her bodily harm.

Worrell was also charged with unlawfully assaulting Padmore but the charge against her was withdrawn by Padmore after Magistrate Azore asked him whether or not he wished to pursue the matter. The duo was once living together.

Worrell was also asked the same thing, and she indicated that she would withdraw the charges but added that she would like to be compensated for the injuries she and her daughter sustained. Magistrate Azore then asked her the amount of compensation she would like and after hesitating, she replied $300,000. The magistrate then told her that she cannot receive compensation and then explained the legal procedure for such. If she wishes to go ahead with the charges, a trial will have to be conducted and if at the end the accused is found guilty a penalty will then be imposed.

After hearing what the magistrate had to say, Worrell decided to pursue the matter.

The magistrate then ordered Padmore to lodge bail in the sum of $30,000 for the assault charge and $50,000 for each bodily harm charge and he is to return to court on the 22nd of May.
