Labourer jailed for a year for stealing from ex-boss

Twenty-one-year-old Carlos Bharrat was yesterday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing over $200,000 in electronic items from his ex-boss when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Bharrat admitted to stealing the items from John Micah between April 29 and May 5 at Enachu Street, Section ‘K’, Campbellville.

He was once employed by Micah as a construction worker.

According to the prosecution, he stole two clutch power amplifiers valued at $70,000 each, one equalizer valued at $35,000, one Pioneer CD player valued at $85,000 and a Texgas cylinder valued at $12,000. All of the items attracted a total of $272,000.

In handing down the sentence, Magistrate Lovell took into consideration Bharrat’s age and the fact that he did not have a criminal record.
