Ministry’s unit has caught 4529 strays since March 2011

The Ministry of Home Affairs has warned livestock owners to ensure proper supervision of their animals so as to prevent traffic accidents and loss of life on the roadways and it announced that its stray catching unit has snared a total of 4529 animals since March 2011.

The ministry issued this advisory in a release reporting on the stray catching programme for the month of April.

For April, the Georgetown Unit impounded a total of 239 animals, comprising 103 cows, 96 goats, 4 horses and 36 sheep.

The Berbice Unit impounded 401 animals in the same period: 313 cows, 49 goats, 3 horses and 36 sheep.

The Georgetown Unit since its inception on March 29, 2011 has impounded 2,230 animals while the Berbice Unit since its inception on July 27, 2012 has impounded a total of 2,299 animals.
