Kaneville driver in court over Madewini road fatality

Devenand Seenarine was yesterday placed on $300,000 bail after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court  before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer a charge of causing death by dangerous driving. Seenarine, 34, of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, is alleged to have caused the death of pedal cyclist  Albert Yarris when he drove his motor car PRR 4157 in a dangerous manner along the Madewini Public Road on Wednesday.

He pleaded not guilty to the crime. Seenarine was accused of driving the car at a fast rate at the time the accident occurred.

The prosecutor objected but bail was subsequently granted to the accused who will also have to report to the Madewini Police Station every two weeks.

Yarris, 59, of Hyde Park, Timehri, was struck down by the car after it overtook a minibus that was turning on the inside.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. The matter will continue on May 22.
