Chinese national fined for illegal entry

A Chinese national was yesterday fined $70,000 with the alternative of six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to entering Guyana illegally.

Su Feng, 26, of Lot 413 Enterprise, East Coast Demerara pled guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The prosecution stated that Feng is a regular visitor who has a work permit which is valid until 2014. On the 8th of August he left Guyana legally through the Moleson Creek port and travelled to Suriname where he was granted a month’s stay. He then returned illegally on the 6th of February.

The prosecution related that on May 13th, Feng was an outgoing passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri when he presented himself to Constable 20418 Bourne who upon checking, observed that there was no entry stamp in his passport after returning from Suriname. When questioned by ranks, Feng sad that he came via the `back track’ from Suriname. He was then arrested and an investigation carried out.
