New building for Region One primary school commissioned

Minister within the Ministry of Finance Juan Edghill on Saturday commissioned the new building housing St John’s Primary School at Three Brothers Village, Region One.

St John’s is one of three schools built in the community; the other two are located at Kachikamo and Lower Waini, which are the two other villages that comprise the Three Brothers community, a Government Information Agency (GINA) report said.

Region One Chairman Paul Pierre was quoted as saying that the student population had increased significantly and the old building which housed the school could no longer accommodate the pupils.

As a result, parents and teachers requested a new school and funds were made available under the Region’s 2012 budget for the construction of the new building.

In handing over the keys to the building, Edghill said government intends that residents of every community have equal access to the services and opportunities available. In this regard, continuous steps are taken to decentralise essential services such as healthcare, education, potable water, housing and infrastructure.

The Three Brothers community also boasts three health centres and a guest house, GINA said.

In addition, GINA said plans are in train to build a new school in the Matarkai sub-district and new Tea-chers’ Quarters at Baramita, Region One.
