Accused phone thief gets bail

Kasey Heyliger was yesterday granted $50,000 bail after denying a charge that he stole a smartphone.

Heyliger, 20, of 20 Dowding Street, Kitty, pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny, when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on May 20, at the St. Gabriel’s Primary School, Heyliger stole a Samsung Galaxy phone, valued $140,000, which was the property of Shane Rai

Attorney Stephen Todd, who appeared for the accused, sought bail, telling the court that it was the first offence for which Heyliger has been charged. He requested reasonable bail.

Bail was granted and Heyliger is to return to court on June 6, when the case will be called again.
