Chinese Association joins with Home Ministry on security

The Chinese Association has joined forces with the Ministry of Home Affairs to address the issue of security of Chinese immigrants and nationals in Guyana.

The Government Infor-mation Agency last night said that at the request of the Chinese Association, the Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday brought together a group of Chinese leaders to discuss the issue and to develop strategies to tackle it.

GINA noted that President Donald Ramotar, on April 15, following a meeting with immigrants and non-immigrants at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC) had committed to prioritise a number of agenda issues so that the Chinese are comfortable and enjoy a hassle-free stay in Guyana. During that meeting, the Chinese nationals had raised concerns about security.

Rohee said that during that meeting it was apprehended that the language barrier was a constraint to the Chinese effectively communicating their concerns. He said that it was felt that the meeting with the Association would result in “better articulation of the problems and therefore resolutions.”

A similar forum was yesterday scheduled with representatives of the Brazilian community but this meeting was postponed at their request,  Rohee said.
