Vergenoegen man died from blunt trauma to head

Azaad Ganie, the elderly man found dead in his Vergenoe-gen, East Bank Essequibo home, died as a result of multiple blunt force traumas to the head, according to an autopsy.

Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh performed the examination on the body of Ganie, 64, who was found with injuries to his head on Monday.

Although police had said a woman and her two children, who had been residing in the lower flat of Ganie’s house, had been arrested, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday said that based on what he knew it was only the woman who was in custody.

A rolling pin, suspected to be the weapon that inflicted the fatal injuries, was found at the scene with Ganie’s body.

A neighbour had recalled hearing Ganie hollering “neighbour, neighbour” but said she thought that he was probably having a nightmare and did not make a big fuss about it. It was not until the police arrived at the house that she and others neighbours realized that something was wrong.
