The trial has begun of Hameraj Rambachan, who is accused of fatally stabbing his ex-lover’s mother.
The trial, which is underway before Justice Brassington Reynolds and a 12-member jury, has started with a voir dire (trial within a trial) which will continue today.
Rambachan, who is represented by attorney Kim Kyte-John, is accused of killing Rajpattie Jagroop, the mother of his ex-lover. The state, represented by Renita Singh and Dhanika Singh, contends that he stabbed the woman to death between July 21 and 22, 2009 at Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara.
He is alleged to have stabbed the woman multiple times about her body after he entered her home through a kitchen window while she was sleeping. He then allegedly inflicted the injuries to her and her other daughter before escaping.
