GPL worker badly burnt at Parika

A Guyana Power and Light (GPL) employee was severely burnt about his body while he was working on a utility pole at Parika yesterday and his co-worker sustained a fractured limb after he jumped off a ladder.

Ryan Henry of Bent Street, Wortmanville was burnt to his face and chest while, Vague Trotman, fractured his limb in the ordeal. Both men are being treated at the Georgetown Hospital for their injuries.

Henry was reportedly working on a GPL pole when he was burnt and Trotman, who was on the ladder leading up to the pole, jumped to the ground after he realized what had occurred, sources told this newspaper. Henry’s condition was listed as critical but stable and he is being monitored by doctors at the hospital.

The hospital said in a release that the two men, ages 17 and 23, were brought to the institution for medical attention around 17:37 hrs yesterday.

One of the men was severely burnt while the other had a fractured limb, the release said.
