Coast guards found guilty of murdering gold miner

The coast guards accused of killing Bartica gold miner Dweive Kant Ramdass were this afternoon found guilty by the jury and subsequently sentenced to death by Justice Franklyn Holder at the High Court in Suddie, Essequibo.

The jury returned with the unanimous verdict of guilty after just 40 minutes of deliberation.

Sherwyn Hart, Deon Greenidge and Devon Gordon committed the offence between August 20 and August 22, 2009, at Caiman Hole, East Bank Essequibo. Hart, Greenidge and Gordon robbed him of $17 million before tossing him into the river. Ramdass’ body was recovered floating in the river days later.
