Labourer in court over ganja in pants pocket

A 20-year-old father of one was yesterday placed on $75,000 bail for allegedly being in possession of six grammes of cannabis.

Nicolai Kissoon of Lot 60 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, who is a labourer by trade, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

According to attorney George Thomas the defendant lives at a home where a number of persons also reside and as such, anyone could have placed the narcotic in the house.

However, Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru stated that the narcotic was found in the pocket of the defendant’s pants which were in his bedroom. The prosecutor further stated that when confronted with the allegations the defendant had admitted to having knowledge of the narcotics.

Thomas further stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the pants in which the narcotics were found were the defendant’s. Bail was set at $75,000 and a return for trial on July 31.
