Supply, Mahaica man shot dead in robbery

A 26-year-old man was shot dead last night by bandits who invaded his home at Supply, Mahaica.

Dead is Omadat Persaud of 70 Supply, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. Persaud was killed following an attack by three persons, around 20:30 hrs; at least one of the men had a gun.
Persaud, also called ‘Vicky’, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was said to have died before he arrived at the Georgetown Public Hospital sometime after 21:00 hrs.

Police confirmed that at the time of the robbery, Persaud was in the home as were his brother-in-law, his sister and his mother. The brother-in-law was said to have also sustained injuries in the attack and was treated at a private institution.

Relatives at the hospital and at the Mahaica home were reluctant to speak with the media regarding the incident.

Up to press time, police were conducting investigations.

Police today issued the following release on the matter.

At about 2030h. last night Monday July 08, 2013, Omadat Persaud called “Vicky”, 27 years, of Supply, Mahaica, was shot and killed during an armed robbery at his home by three men, two of whom were armed with firearms.

Investigations revealed that Yogendra Naipaul, 38 years, his wife Omadai Naipaul, 38 years, and their son and daughter were outside of the home when they were confronted by the armed men.

The perpetrators took them into building where they also held up Omadat Persaud and who was shot to his head in the process.

The armed men took away a quantity of jewellery and a sum of US currency and escaped.

Investigations are in progress.
