Cops questioning man in Vryheid’s Lust seawall murder

Police are questioning a man in connection with the murder of Tyrone Boodhoo who was shot on the Vryheid’s Lust Seawall, East Coast Demerara on Sunday night, a senior police officer yesterday.

This newspaper was previously told that police were seeking a man with whom Boodhoo reportedly had a dispute. It was apparently this man who was detained.
The police officer said that so far there is nothing to connect the man to the shooting.

Boodhoo’s mother Doreen told this newspaper yesterday that so far there is no update on the police investigations.

The woman said that the death of her son has left her afraid, resulting in her being unable to sleep at nights. She said that she plans to bury Boodhoo who is one of  four children on Sunday.

According to Doreen, a post-mortem examination yesterday revealed that he sustained three gunshot wounds among them, one in the area of the cheek and another to the side.

Police said in a press release that the post-mortem examination revealed that the 32 year old man died as a result of “perforation to the lungs and liver, due to gunshot injuries”.

Reports are that around 21:25 hours Boodhoo, 32, of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara and a female friend, Martha Mohamed, 23, were at the seawall in the vicinity of Vryheid’s Lust, when they were confronted by two men, who ordered them to lie on the ground.

Boodhoo attempted to escape, the police had said, but was shot by one of the men. He was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The perpetrators took away a cell phone from Mohamed and escaped.

Relatives of the dead man say that the shooting is more than a robbery gone wrong especially since nothing was taken from Boodhoo.
