Use Ramadan to earn mercy, forgiveness – CIOG

The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) is urging Muslims to make maximum use of the period of Ramadan to earn the mercy and forgiveness of Allah by fasting and doing charitable works.

In his message, CIOG president Fazeel Ferouz said believers should use the time to reflect on and study the life, mission and achievements of the Prophet Muhammad.

“We should let our lives reflect our love for him and all those ideals that he spoke about and taught us,” he said, according to a press release.

Ferouz posited that embracing the prophet’s noble life; message of peace, love, unity of all humanity and tolerance can have a positive impact in individual lives and change the world. He also said that Muslims should share out their zakaat to the destitute, particularly near relatives who are needy.

“Let us…try our best to make peace with all our family members, neighbours and fellow citizens. Let us visit the sick and pray for them.
Let us extend our mercy to the orphans in our community. Let us sympathize and help the widows and elderly people in society. These actions will earn us God’s forgiveness and mercy; this is what Ramadhan stands for,” he said.
