Couple on peace bond after discontinuing assault prosecution

A couple accused of assaulting each other but who opted against pursuing the matter was yesterday placed on a 12-month bond to keep the peace.

If Ervin Griffith and Deon Graham fail to keep the peace, they will be imprisoned for four months, Magistrate Ann McLennan, who heard the matter at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, told them.

Both denied that on July 15, at Lot QQ-36 Lamaha Park, Guyhoc, they unlawfully assaulted each other.

Griffith, 60, a mason, shares a common-law relationship with 41-year-old pump attendant Graham, with whom he lives.

When asked the nature of the assault, Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru said that on the day in question Griffith pulled away a phone from Graham, touching her hand in the process and she in turn hit him with a pot spoon.

Both Griffith and Graham indicated to the court that they did not want to offer evidence against each other.

The parties were then informed that their matters would be dismissed for no offer of evidence.
