A Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice man was sentenced to two months imprisonment yesterday after he pleaded guilty to assaulting and threatening his sister.
Christopher Hemraj, 19, of Cobourg Dam, Cumberland, East Canje admitted to the acts when he appeared before Magistrate Rhondel Weaver in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
Hemraj lives with his older sister Christine Hemraj, 23, whom he assaulted on Thursday at their Cumberland home.
The police’s case is that Christine returned home around 5:30am on Thursday after a night out and was greeted by Christopher, who inquired about her activities, leading to an argument. Hemraj then slapped her and threatened to kill her.
Christine subsequently reported the matter to the police and her brother was charged with the two offences. He was sentenced to one month imprisonment for each charge.
