Man to stand trial for sexual assault on under-13 child

A 20-year-old man, who is accused of engaging in sexual penetration of a child under the age of 13, was yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Richmond Favourite, of Lot 208 Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown was committed at the conclusion of paper committal proceedings which were held at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

His trial will commence in the High Court at the next practical sitting of the criminal assizes.

The matter was held in-camera (to the exclusion of the public) both because a juvenile is involved and the nature of the charge.

The charge against the labourer is that between October 1 and 31, 2011 at Georgetown, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 13.

He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of rape of a child under 16 years.

The accused has been on bail in the sum of $75,000 since his initial arraignment.
