Sophia woman wounded man after he dumped her – court hears

When her boyfriend ended their relationship, Sophia resident Sharon McAllister allegedly took a bottle to his face, Magistrate Alex Moore at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court was told on Tuesday.

But McAllister, 21, of 28 Dennis Street, Sophia, pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Ronalta Grosvenor, so as to cause him grievous bodily harm.

She is alleged to have committed the crime on July 28, at Dennis Street, Sophia, after Grosvenor informed her that he no longer wanted her as his girlfriend. Furious at the development, an argument ensued during which she allegedly dealt the man a “lash” with a bottle across the left side of his face, mere inches from his eyes.

Although Police Prosecutor Corporal Cheryl Graham objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence and the fact that McAllister and Grosvenor live in the same area and may get into another altercation, Magistrate Moore set bail at $200,000 and ordered McAllister to report to the Turkeyen Police Station every Tuesday and Thursday between 12 noon and 8 PM.

The case was adjourned to September 6.
