Guard accused of stealing wallet

Facing a charge of stealing a wallet filled with cash, security guard John Vaughn told a city court that it had been found on the road. Vaughn, 48, of Agricola, East Bank Demerara, was charged with stealing the wallet, which contained $29,000, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The charge stated that on July 19, he stole the wallet containing the cash, which belonged to Gordon Douglas. He pleaded not guilty to the charge when Magistrate Fabayo Azore read it to him. As prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue had no objections to bail, it was set at $45,000.

After bail was handed down, the father of five pleaded with the court for a reduction. “Ma Worship I don’t have that kind of money. Is a lil boy find that wallet on the road,” he pleaded to no avail.

The case is scheduled to continue on August 12 at Court 8.
