Tractor operator shot in Tain attack

A Tain, Corentyne, Berbice man was shot in in front his home last evening by three men.

Tractor operator Parachandra Harriprasad, 50, of First Street, Tain, was left nursing a gunshot wound to his left hand at the Port Mourant Public Hospital up to press time, following what is believed to have been an attempted robbery at around 8:40pm.

Harriprasad told Stabroek News that moments before he was shot,

he and a few others had returned from the Port Mourant Community Centre, where they went to pick up some sponge mattresses for participants of the PPP’s 30th Congress who are staying at him.

He said he was with others downstairs when his wife observed “a picket moving” and she kept telling him for them to stay in the yard since something strange was happening.

However, Harriprasad said one of his guests was on his cellular phone heading outside towards the street. “The fella was on talking on his phone going outside and I was walking behind him. Den I see two bicycles and I holla run in back the yard. Den three fella run out of a bathroom and they fire deh shot,” he said, explaining that the bathroom stood on a houseless lot.

Harriprasad added he recognised one of the guys, from Tain block four, where the men are believed to have escaped after the attack.

He indicated that he did not know he was shot or how he got shot but after a few seconds he realised he noticed the blood.

When Stabroek News had arrived at the Port Mourant Hospital, a van load of police were seen conducting investigations.

It was also observed that an ambulance was approaching to transport the victim to the New Amsterdam for further medical attention.
