‘Lil hard talking’ lands bus operators on threat, assault charges

Two bus operators were charged yesterday with threatening and assaulting each other.

Both Clarence McGarrell and Francis Braithwaite denied the charges when they were arraigned before Magis-trate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
McGarrell, 53, of 34 Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, was accused of threatening Braithwaite so as to cause a breach of peace on August 16, at Regent Street, Georgetown.

There was no objection to bail for him, which was set at $10,000.

Police also alleged that on the same day at the same place, Braithwaite, 37, of Lot 91 Den Amstel, West Bank Demerara, unlawfully assaulted McGarrell so as to cause him actual bodily harm. He told the court that “me and he [McGarrell] had a lil hard talking your worship and he pulled out a knife from the glove compartment.”

Police Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue did not object to bail, which was set at $25,000.
Both men were ordered to return to court on September 18.
