Linden man and teen fined after being nabbed with ganja

A man and a teen were both fined $5,000 yesterday after admitting they were caught with cannabis during police searches in Linden.

Brian Durga, 46, who admitted that he had two grammes of cannabis, and the 16-year-old juvenile, who admitted that he had three grammes of cannabis, were also ordered to do three months of community service after they pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore imposed the penalty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the duo appeared on narcotics possession charges.

Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue stated that police ranks were conducting searches at Mackenzie, Linden, on August 21, when they found the narcotics in the defendants’ possession.

Attorney George Thomas represented both defendants and asked for leniency.
