Four brothers, Leonard, 27, Orlando, 23, Kevin, 22, and Chavez Allicock, 21, were on Tuesday each sentenced to five years in jail after they were found guilty of the armed robbery of an Albouystown shopkeeper.
Magistrate Judy Latchman handed down the sentence at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the men’s co-accused, Terrence Bastiani, was found not guilty and freed.
The charge against the Allicocks and Bastiani stated that on February 9, at Lot 33 James Street, Albouystown, being armed with a gun, they robbed Amanda Kyte of a quantity of jewellery, cash and a shoulder bag, all totalling $687,000. They had all pleaded not guilty to the joint charge.
The police’s case was that Kyte was in her shop at James Street when the accused, who she knew, barged in and robbed her.
Kyte’s brother heard the noise and went to the aid of his sister, police said, but when he entered the shop he was chopped to his shoulder by one of the attackers, who was armed with a cutlass.
As a result of the attack, Chavez Allicock was also charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Dwayne Kyte with intent to maim, harm and disfigure him. Although he pleaded not guilty, he was also found guilty of the offence and will be serving an additional five years imprisonment as his sentences will run consecutively.
