Landlord and tenant get bail after fracas

A dispute between a landlord and a tenant landed both of them in court yesterday on abusive language charges.

Michael Paul, 39, of Lot 4 First Street, Alberttown, was charged with using abusive language to Chandranie Baldeo, on August 28 at Shell Road, Kitty. Baldeo, 51, of Lot 1C Shell Road, Kitty, also answered to a similar charge.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read by Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

When asked whether they would like to proceed with the charges, Paul initially indicated an interest in dropping his case against Baldeo but changed his mind after she voiced her intention to proceed.

Each party claimed to have been abused by the other. While Baldeo said that Paul had physically abused her husband and daughter and added that he was previously placed on a bond to keep the peace by the court in relation to his behaviour towards his family, Paul said that her claims were false. He added that the family has harassed him and his wife on numerous occasions.

After listening to both sides, Magistrate McGusty granted $10,000 bail to each party and adjourned the case to September 5.
