Armed bandit beats, robs Tuschen shopkeeper

Police last evening were on the hunt for an armed man who robbed a shop in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo after beating the proprietor in the head.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that around 9.30 pm, moments after the shopkeeper had sold two customers, an unmasked man walked into ‘Margaret Shop’ located at Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo and brandished a gun. This newspaper was told that the man pointed his weapon at the businessman, his wife and their small child.

He later took the gun and hit the businessman several times in the head before escaping with an undisclosed sum of cash which represented the day’s sales.

The shopkeeper subsequently went to the Leonora Hospital for medical attention. According to reports reaching this newspaper, within the last few days there has been an upsurge in petty crimes in the area. For yesterday alone five break and enter matters were reported to the police.

This is an issue which had been affecting residents of Tuschen for some time along with armed robberies committed on persons making their way home after dark.

Police will be conducting a community outreach next month and residents say they are anxiously awaiting this forum as they want the police to find ways to deal with the crime situation in the area.
