Robbery with violence accused remanded

A man was yesterday refused bail after he allegedly used personal violence to rob another and then assaulted the man’s wife when she went to his rescue.

Simeon Williams, 26, of Lot 36 Walker Terrace, West La Penitence appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court arraigned on two charges.

It is alleged that on the September 17, Williams used personal violence to rob Jonshwani Jadduroy of a gold chain and pendant valued $300,000. On the same day he also assaulted Amrita Jadduroy. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Police documents revealed that on the day in question, Jonshwani Jadduroy was walking along Avenue of the Republic with his wife. It is alleged that Williams walked up to him and dealt him several cuffs then relieved him of his gold chain. His wife rallied to his assistance and she was assaulted.

An alarm was raised and a constable in the area responded and arrested Williams. A search was conducted on him and the chain was found tucked in his pants’ waist.

Attorney Paul-Fung-A-Fat who appeared for Williams told the court his client was never found guilty by any court and pleaded for reasonable bail.

Williams was refused bail. He is to return to court on September 20.
