Bath Settlement man granted bail on break and enter charge

At the Blairmont Court yesterday, Magistrate Rondell Weaver placed a Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice man on $175,000 bail on charges of break and enter and larceny.

It is alleged that between May 20 and 27 Kenneth Prince broke into the home of Hugh Thomas and Bibi Hamid and stole cash and a quantity of articles amounting to $250,000.

Two gas bottles with fittings and a kerosene stove belonging to the couple were later discovered at the defendant’s home.

It is alleged too that a quantity of groceries, a hair dryer, curling iron and other items were also missing from the house.

According to the facts presented by police prosecutor, Corporal Orin Joseph, the police were investigating another robbery that occurred on September 19 and during a search at the defendant’s home, they found some of the couple’s articles.

The prosecutor told the court that the couple secured their home during that period and went out. Upon their return they discovered the items missing and made a report.

Prince pleaded guilty to the charges but when the magistrate heard his explanation she entered a not guilty plea.

He explained that he was in the yard while a friend went into the house and stole the articles and left them at his house. The case comes up again on October 28.
