Dominican fined for entering Guyana illegally

A Dominican national was yesterday fined for illegal entry when she appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge.

Yosairy Mable Ventura, 32, entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.

She pleaded guilty when the charge was read to her by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Ventura, who resides in Suriname entered Guyana illegally via Springlands and failed to report to the nearest immigration office. Police Prosecutor Sergeant Vishnu Hunt told the court that on September 23 she was arrested at the Ogle International Airport and told of the offence. Ventura who does not speak English was provided with an interpreter. Asked through the interpreter whether she would like to say anything to the court, the woman responded in the negative.

Ventura was fined $30,000 or alternatively 3 months imprisonment.
