Iron Punt pirates still at large

The pirates who attacked two fishing vessels at Iron Punt in the Pomeroon River remain at large, according to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud who also said that there have been no more attacks.

Contacted for an update on the incidents which occurred on Saturday night Persaud said that there were no new developments.

Reports are that four men armed with shotguns attacked fishermen. Two of the men reportedly spoke Spanish; another spoke English; and the fourth man did not speak a word during the attack.

Some of the fishermen managed to escape from the pirates and subsequently made a report to the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard Floating Base located at the mouth of the Pomeroon River. Fishermen from a second vessel were later found floating.

The pirates had transferred them to a smaller boat and escaped with the fishing vessel which contained the cash and engine.

The police and Coast Guard are investigating.
