Kingelly man gets 30 months jail for violent robbery

A West Coast Berbice man was yesterday sentence to 30 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to a violent robbery.

Raymond Gouveia, 18, of Kingelly Village, West Coast Berbice, admitted that he robbed Samantha McLennon of a cellular phone while using personal violence on September 25.

Magistrate Faith McGusty, who handed down the sentence at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, was told that McLennon was walking on the Mahdia Public road when Gouveia approached her from behind, grabbed her and threw her to the ground. He relieved her of a cellular phone, valued $7,500, and then made good his escape.

McLennon reported the matter to the Mahdia Police Station and Gouveia was later identified to the police as the person who robbed her.
