‘Pick-it-Up’ campaign hosting clean-up exercises in Linden, Uitvlugt

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment is hosting a ‘Pick-it-Up’ Guyana clean-up exercise in Linden and at the Uitvlugt beach today and tomorrow from 6.30am.

In a press release, the ministry said the Linden clean-up is targeting the Mackenzie and Wismar markets along the Demerara River front. Several Linden organisations such as Youth vision, Central Mackenzie Scout Group, Young and Thoughtful youth Club and the President’s Youth award Republic of Guyana have pledged their commitment to support the ministry’s efforts.

At Uitvlugt, the clean-up exercise will start from the beach area in line with the Uitvlugt Bridge.

This activity is a collaborative effort with support from the regional administration, the Uitvlugt Development Group, PYARG, Pathfinders Club of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and residents. Volunteers from Georgetown have also pledged to participate.

The ministry said the refuse collected will be analysed and used to support future interventions and studies directed at protecting and sustaining Guyana’s coastal and riverine areas.
