Suspected target of Mambo attack held

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said this morning that the man who is believed to have been the target of Sunday’s deadly attack at Mambo Bar in Kitty was arrested last night in Essequibo.

It is believed that he may be helpful in identifying either the gunmen or the person who hired them. With his arrest the police say they are one step closer to making a breakthrough.

Persaud told Stabroek News that this person was present at the time of the shooting incident and was not among those who were injured. Police were never able to make contact with him.

Asked about why the man may have been targeted, he said that investigators are in possession of information in this regard. He said that the man is currently being questioned by police.

Police had said in a press release that around 0020 hours Shelliza Lall, 33 years, of Charity, Essequibo Coast, was shot and killed, by two masked men, one of whom was armed with a firearm. Injured are Raymond Lall, 36 years, of Charity, Essequibo Coast, Permanand Persaud, of Mon Repos, ECD and Babatunde Nedd, of Parika, EBE.

Persons at the scene said that both men were armed.

According to the police investigations have revealed that Lall, her husband Raymond Lall, Badatunde Nedd and Permanand Persaud were at Mambo Bar at Barr Street, Kitty, when the suspects entered and discharged several rounds hitting them. Lall and her husband were taken to a private hospital where the woman was pronounced dead while Raymond was admitted.  The other two men were also admitted to hospital but later released.
