Shoe store employee denies cocaine possession

The employee of a shoe store was yesterday accused of having in his possession ½ gramme of cocaine and a smoking utensil.

Gavin Kerr, 37, of Lot 47 Norton Street, Wortmanville, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him when he was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on October 2, at North Road, Bourda, he had in his possession, ½ gramme cocaine.

It is also alleged that the same place he had in his possession a utensil used to smoke cocaine, that is, an improvised cork.

Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat said that his client has a wife and two children and is currently employed at Bhena’s Footwear.

He added that Kerr has never had any troubles with the law and asked that reasonable bail be granted since the quantity of the drug was less than one gramme.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who presided at the arraignment, later granted bail in the sum of $50,000 for each charge and the matter was adjourned.
