Plaisance man accused of knife-point hold-up

Plaisance resident Victor Roberts was yesterday remanded to prison after being accused of robbing another man of a $450,000 gold chain at knife-point.

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, it was alleged that on October 5, in the vicinity of the Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, Roberts, armed with knife, robbed Leon Baldeo of a gold chain valued $450,000.

Roberts, 28, of Lot 41 Prince William Street, Plaisance, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambujue told the court that on the day in question Roberts, in the company of others, robbed Baldeo with a knife. He indicated, however, that the police investigation was incomplete and therefore he was unable to prosecute. As a result, he asked for two weeks to gather further information.

Rambujue also objected to bail, citing the nature of offence. Roberts rambled on in the prisoner’s dock that he was being accused falsely.

The magistrate subsequently refused bail and remanded him to prison until October 30.
