Accident victims said to be recovering

Two-year-old Mya Evans is said to be well on her way to recovery at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), while Repish Bhagwandin and Savitri Thomas have been discharged following last Friday morning’s accident at Coverden, East Bank Demerara.

Meanwhile, Travis Semple, 28, who lost his right hand following an accident at Number 28 Village, West Coast Berbice on Sunday was in theatre when this newspaper checked.

Friday’s accident which claimed the lives of bus driver, Felix Marc, 42, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and passengers, Delroy Evans and Loretta Evans, and Pulmattie Samaroo of Mahdia had left six persons hospitalised.

Police had said that Bhagwandin, 19, of Hope, ECD was the driver of the truck GPP 8495 which was loaded with sand at the time it collided with minibus BPP 3521, after Bhagwandin allegedly attempted to pass another truck that as parked on the roadway.

Passengers travelling in the minibus testified that the driver of the minibus was not speeding at the time of the accident. Some of the passengers even said that they would normally travel with Marc to Mahdia because they were confident in his ability as a safe driver.

Bhagwandin is expected to appear at the Providence Magistrates’ Court today.

On Sunday, meantime, Semple and his friend, Abocy Lynch were said to have been travelling east along the Number 28 Village road on a motorcycle when it ran into a car, which according to reports, lost control and ran into another car, injuring passengers in both vehicles.

Semple’s friend, Lynch, has been released from the hospital.
