Family details ambush at Ogle on arrival from airport

In less than a week, a second East Coast family has come forward to detail their terror at being ambushed at gunpoint after returning home from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

On Friday last, Katherine Lord and her brother Joseph Ishmael were followed and held up at their Ogle residence. The incident occurred around 11:15 pm at Lot 49 Airview Road Area H, Ogle.

Ishmael told this publication that he had just arrived home from the airport, where he had gone to pick up his sister, Lord, who had arrived from London.

He said he was offloading the vehicle when a silver grey car drove past and stopped at the end of the road.

Two men exited the car, walked back to them and held both of them at gunpoint.

“One of the gunmen told me to take my bag off my neck and I did,” Lord said.

“He started to search my body for jewellery. He took my British passport, airline ticket, three cellphones, one laptop, jewellery and £1,900 from me.”

Ishmael said one gunman told him to “’give me everything you have’. I took out the money that was in my pocket ($12,000) and give it to him.

He then put his hand in my other pocket and took out a red Razr cellphone and a pouch with my driver’s licence, ID card, insurance papers and my car keys.” He added that the items which the bandits got away with from his sister amounted to an estimated $225,000.

0n Tuesday, an Annandale family who had just arrived from the airport was robbed by two gunmen who got away with over $700,000 before firing shots at the roof of restaurant that is owned by the family.

Ishmael said that they decided to come forward with their story after reading about that attack.

Meanwhile, Stabroek News contacted CEO of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Ramesh Ghir and he stated that the police were informed about the incidents and the security force at the airport had been asked to be more observant and alert.

He also said that they are on the lookout for persons who frequent the airport.
