Cops probing elderly businessman’s reported suicide at seawall

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 71-year-old Robert Marvin Wright, who is reported to have shot himself dead at the Kitty Seawall yesterday afternoon.

Wright, of 47 Bel Air Gardens, was found on the seawall within the vicinity of Conversation Tree after reportedly shooting himself in the mouth.

Police said that a .32 Taurus revolver loaded with four rounds of ammunition and a spent shell were discovered at the scene.

Stabroek News was told Wright, a licensed firearm holder, reportedly called his friend and notified him of his intentions to commit suicide.

By the time his friend managed to get to the scene, he was too late to attempt to console and prevent the man from killing himself.

Wright, a retired employee of a beverage company and businessman, was having domestic issues, which are believed to have motivated his actions.

When Stabroek News arrived at the scene, undertakers from the Lyken Funeral Home were seen removing the body while police carried out investigations.

Wright’s relatives said that they were too distraught to speak when approached by this newspaper.

He is survived by his wife and children.
